Nara Shedd, Licensed Massage Therapist
“Each individual is an extraordinary layered being, of heart, mind, body and spirit, and these layers of being dance together. These therapeutic techniques dance with them, so they may release and heal, all together, with ease in their dance.” –Nara Shedd, LMT
Nara’s treatments are subtle and detailed, releasing pain patterns held in layers of fascia, connective tissue and muscle in the body. Over her decade of practice, Nara has developed and refined detailed, specialized treatments for TMJ and jaw pain, headache and migraine, neck pain and whiplash, shoulder pain and thoracic outlet syndrome, wrist and hand pain, and low back and sciatic pain. Nara’s treatments attune to optimize client healing and easeful rejuvenation.
Nara is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Certified Core Synchronism Practitioner (Levels 1-7), Certified Laban-Bartenieff Movement Analyst, and Certified MogaDao Morning Medical Qigong Instructor.
Nara earned her Bachelor of Arts, Cum Laude, in Biology from the University of Chicago in 1994, and her Bachelor of Fine Arts, Summa Cum Laude, in Studio Art from the University of New Mexico in 1999. She began teaching as a long-term sub and full-time teacher on waiver in 1997, and earned her New Mexico Secondary Education Teachers License in 2002. She taught middle and high school science, math, and art in the Albuquerque and Santa Fe Public Schools, and outreach science education for the Albuquerque BioPark, for nearly a decade.
In 2005, Nara’s love of dance and her studies in Movement Analysis drew her to an 800-hour training in Laban-Bartenieff Movement Analysis with Integrated Movement Studies at the University of Utah, from which she earned her Certification in Laban-Bartenieff Movement Analysis in 2006. Inspired by this deep dive into movement and touch, Nara then began her studies in Core Synchronism with its founder, Dr. Robert Stevens, and entered the New Mexico School of Natural Therapeutics in 2005. She earned her Certification as a Natural Therapeutics Specialist, and completed her Certification as a Core Synchronism Practitioner in 2007. Nara became a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2007, and has been in full-time clinical practice since then.
Nara has a passion and deep compassion for helping and serving people. Both of her careers, in education and now in therapeutic bodywork, have filled her and continue to fill her with great joy and enthusiasm for the exquisite power, grace and amazingness of human beings. She has worked in integrative clinics, helping clients as young as two, to elders as old as 92, and people of all ages in between, with a broad range of acute and chronic pain conditions, and complex medical and injury histories. She comes to practice deeply awed by the healing journey of each person she encounters and feels privileged to work with each one.
In addition to her professional studies, Nara has studied American Sign Language, French Language, Architecture, Psychology, African Dance and Music, Modern Dance, Movement Analysis, Qigong, Tai Chi Ch’uan, Yoga, Gongfu, Sacred Song, and Rinzai Zen Meditation. She has taught movement classes to adults and children for Laban, Qigong, Tai Chi Ch’uan, Continuum-informed Yoga, and African Dance. Nara integrates customized self-care programs from this movement background into her sessions, to help clients maintain their wellness with simple exercises between treatments.
Nara is deeply honored and excited to be working with you, and deeply inspired to be working with her colleagues and the extraordinary team here at Mountain Spirit Integrative Medicine.
