Michael Hughes, Licensed Massage Therapist
Michael Hughes is a licensed massage therapist who specializes in Asian bodywork such as Tui Na, Shiatsu and Thai massage. In 2011, Michael received his Massage Therapist degree at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago, IL. He is currently studying at Southwest University of Naprapathic Medicine; his goal is to earn the degree of Doctor of Naprapathic Medicine, which he is confident will add greatly to the scope of his abilities in the healing arts.
Michael often incorporates passive stretching techniques into his massage treatments. In addition, Michael is trained in prenatal massage, myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy, visceral massage, lymphatic drainage, circulatory massage, craniosacral massage, pediatric TuiNa, and geriatric TuiNa.
Michael's interest in bodywork and healing began at the early age of 6, when he became a student of martial arts. Learning about pressure points, anatomy and physiology in relation to his opponents intrigued him. As his experience increased he learned the principle of kappo and sappo and realized that fighting techniques could also be used for healing. These ideas were the foundation that led to him becoming a massage therapist, where he utilizes biomechanics, physiology and anatomy and what he has learned about the mind body connection to help others.
Michael believes that the only true healer is the Great Spirit (which may go by many names) but believes that he is a facilitator for healing. His vocation is to work together with his clients to help them best achieve their individual health goals.
